The Eagle Has Landed in Malaysia!

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Alif Satar on stage during Khabib's event

On September 29, 2024, the World Trade Centre (WTC), KL, hosted an inspiring event where prominent mixed martial artist and former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov gave priceless insights about his life, work, and faith. The audience was reminded throughout the day of the value of discipline, purpose, and a close relationship with Islam in all facets of life.

The Power of Purpose and Reason

The idea of fighting for a cause and a purpose was one of Khabib’s primary objectives. He emphasised that a meaningful objective should be the driving force behind every activity, whether it is morally good or not. This strikes an important connection with the idea of niyyah for Muslims. According to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.), the true success of any deed is determined by its aim, and it must be done for the benefit of Allah (s.w.t.). Khabib reminded us that in our personal, professional, and spiritual lives, all of our endeavours should be directed towards the goal of praising and appeasing Allah (s.w.t.).

Islamic Foundations and Confidence

Throughout the talk, Khabib discussed how his Islamic background enabled him to cope with all aspects of life, including the demands of fame and being an athlete. He talked about how his faith provided him the courage to keep strong during trying times. This serves as a potent reminder of the strength that comes from trusting in Allah (s.w.t.), who is more than capable of meeting our needs. Khabib’s own experiences demonstrated how profoundly this trust may alter our perspective and provide us with the strength and perseverance to face challenges.

The Lifelong Pursuit of Knowledge

One notable aspect of Khabib’s speech was his emphasis on the pursuit of knowledge. From birth to death, Muslims are urged to pursue knowledge. Khabib talked about how his quest for knowledge—both religious and secular—helped him stay focused and develop as a person. His advice serves as a reminder to constantly develop our intellectual and spiritual capabilities and to keep in mind that knowledge is a gift from Allah (s.w.t).

Success: A Blessing from Allah (s.w.t.)

Khabib offered a humble and insightful perspective on achievement. He emphasised to the audience that Allah (s.w.t.) is ultimately responsible for success. He clarified that although discipline, diligence, and top-notch facilities are important, Allah’s will is the true cause of all achievement. This is related to tawakkul, the Islamic concept of putting our reliance in Allah (s.w.t.) only when we have fulfilled our obligation to Him. Regardless of our level of effort, we must constantly recognise that Allah (s.w.t.) is the one who provides what is best for us.

Discipline, Hard Work, and Focus: Staying on Top

Khabib emphasised the value of focus, discipline, and hard work, especially for those who want to rise to the top and remain there. He revealed that the keys to his success were staying focused on his objectives and practising consistently. This is strongly tied to the Islamic precept of Ihsan, which calls for carrying out all actions with greatness and sincerity, whether they are daily chores or acts of worship. Muslims are encouraged to aim for excellence in whatever they do, and Khabib’s career is an excellent example of how this kind of thinking can result in amazing accomplishments.

Prioritising Faith Above All

Khabib concluded by discussing how to correctly establish priorities, with religion at the centre of everything. He explained how he was able to retain success and balance without compromising his principles by keeping Allah (s.w.t.) at the core of his life. Khabib’s message was an important reminder that when faith is put first in today’s fast-paced world full of distractions, everything else falls into place.

The Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) said,
“Whoever is focused on the Hereafter, Allah will settle his affairs for him and make him feel content with his lot, and his provision and worldly gains will undoubtedly come to him.”
(Ṣaḥiḥ Darussalam Sunan Ibn Majah 4105)

A Day of Reflection Inspiration

The event featuring sports legend Khabib Nurmagomedov at WTC, KL offered a chance to reflect on life’s greater lessons about success, faith, and values. His remarks served as a reminder that, despite the difficulties we face in life, we can navigate them by being firmly rooted in Islamic principles. For modern Muslims, Khabib’s journey offers a potent example of having a clear aim and working hard with honesty.

If you weren’t there, you missed an inspiring and wise afternoon, but the lessons learnt will be beneficial for a very long time. Let us spread the word of putting faith first, working hard, and having complete faith in Allah (s.w.t.) to bring success.
